Electricity and Chemical Affinity
Nikola Tesla (1857- 1943 ) a prolific inventor, was the man who harnessed the alternating electrical current we use today. Fluorescent lighting was one of a vast number of his inventions.
A magnetic field unit of measure, the TESLA, is named in his memory.
Of particular interest is a remark said to be made by Tesla regarding the behaviour of electrical energy and chemicals. Tesla commented on the effects obtained with alternating current of high voltage and frequency - "We observe how the energy of an alternating current traversing the wire manifests itself - not so much in the wires as in the surrounding space - in the most surprising manner taking the forms of heat, light and mechanical energy and most surprising of all, even chemical affinity."
(Ref: Man Out Of Time by Margaret Cheney (1981) The Bantam Doubleday Dell Publishing Group NY U.S.A.)
The synergism or compounded effects of chemicals and electromagnetic fields, is now known to cause adverse health effects for many people with electro-hypersensitivity (EHS) in today's environment. Two prominent researchers in allergies and electro-hypersensitivity, Dr Cyril Smith of Salford University and Dr Jean Monro of Breakspear hospital, London have found that many patients give a history of a hypersensitivity to a wide range of electromagnetic fields and devices in addition to their other allergic sensitivities. It is noted that the sensitivity is frequency specific rather than intensity specific. Some patients with multiple allergies complained of extreme sensitivities to electrical devices, systems and magnetic instruments. Research shows that symptoms that can be provoked chemically can be neutralised electrically and vice versa. ( See an Anecdote item. Also bioeffects item and chemical uptake to the brain regarding joint action of chemicals and EM-Fields)
Tesla himself was beset with a variety of strange, incapacitating illnesses. Some of his symptoms of exquisite sensitivity, are among those reported in some contemporary, extreme cases of electro-hypersensitivity (EHS). Perhaps Tesla's case was the first documented case of electro/chemical hypersensitivity? Given the nature of his work, not so surprising!
